'LONDON START, SOUTH AFRICAN HEART'
It all started in a little house in Hampton Hill, circa London 2012.
The Brand name Phoenix & The Llama Apparel was chosen after my son Phoenix’s unusual friendship with a Llama. Customers found the name quite comical, the products designed were for Kids. Edgy garments with a distinct ‘London’ Punk style.
Fast forward to three years, we returned to African Soil after building a life in London for ten years. A container was packed and P&L was moved over continents to settle in Cape Town.
Cut to twelve years of hustling and grinding in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, the brand exploded and P&L had unexpectedly shifted from Kids to Adult wear. I felt the need to re-brand the website to ‘Indie Nation,’ embracing the spirit of Indie Fashion (enter my second little rockstar ballerina babe, Indie).
WHAT WE DO:
At Indie Nation Brand we strive to empower and provide employment to our Local Community. We use only the highest quality locally sourced fabrics. From concept to creation, time and care is invested in each garment and accessory, using handpicked fabrics and quirky prints that come to life in statement designs.
I love coming up with unusual ideas and encouraging others to be completely different and unique. The brand has a story behind it and the original hand crafted Kids products created under Phoenix & The Llama are truly special. I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when a product really grabs a customer’s attention.
To stay ahead of the pack one must constantly evolve, diversify and never stop exploring new ideas. That’s the trick and the adventure that lies ahead of me!
My motto in life is simple. Stay humble, remember your roots. Be friendly, be kind, be cool!
